Connect Linear and Greptile reads the issues behind your pull requests. When it reviews a PR it finds the issues that PR is about, uses them as context, and links back to every issue it read. Available to all organizations. One admin connects it once for the whole organization.

What Greptile does with your issues

  • Finds the issue - Greptile picks up issue identifiers and links from the PR title, description, and branch name. It can also search Linear for related work while reviewing
  • Reviews against it - the issue description, its comments, and its acceptance criteria become review context, so Greptile can point out where the change doesn’t do what was asked
  • Answers follow-ups - ask about an issue in a reply to a Greptile comment and it looks the issue up
  • Shows its sources - every issue Greptile read is linked in the review

Connect Linear

Connecting requires admin access to your Greptile organization.
1

Open Integrations

On the Greptile dashboard, go to Settings → Connections → Integrations.
2

Add Linear

Click Add new data source and select Linear.
3

Authorize Greptile

Linear asks you to grant Greptile read access to your workspace. Approve it, and you land back on the Integrations page.
4

Done

Linear shows up in your connected data sources. Greptile uses issue context on the next review.

Where the issues show up

A comment that relies on an issue ends with a Source Used line linking to it, and the review summary lists everything Greptile read under Context used. Greptile only cites issues it actually opened. When Greptile finds an issue you didn’t link, it says so in the comment rather than presenting it as one you referenced.

Narrow it to specific teams

By default Greptile can read the whole workspace. To narrow that, click the edit icon on the Linear row to open Configure Linear, then select the teams the reviewer may read. No selection means the entire workspace. The same dialog has an Instructions field for telling the reviewer how to use Linear, for example “acceptance criteria live in the issue description”.

What Greptile can read

  • Read-only. Greptile never writes to Linear.
  • Anything the Linear account that authorized the connection can see, narrowed to the teams you pick, in every repository in your organization.

Managing the connection

Any member of your organization can see connected data sources under Settings → Connections → Integrations; admins can add and remove them. To turn the integration off, click the disconnect icon on the Linear row and confirm. Greptile deletes the stored credentials and reviews continue without issue context.
